Yesterday was the opening of Guava Showroom, in Oporto. It was an event we couldn't miss. The place is beautiful but the collection designed by Inês Caleiro is magnificent. We loved it! Good luck to GUAVA.

Swain boots come in a re-usable wood box to reduce packaging waste
It took more than a century for someone to do something different in the shoe industry regarding packaging, but get ready, because there’s a new box in town. A young Portuguese entrepreneur is introducing the first shoe in the market packed in a box made of wood. The name is Swain, the concept is simple: “You don’t need to throw away your paper box or burn it in your fireplace anymore”, says Rodrigo Mendes, the young Portuguese entrepreneur. “A box is perfect for planting strawberries or to keep books and CDs on your desk.” Swain is manufactured in northern Portugal, and because they are made to last, you won’t need to buy a replacement pair for a long time.
CUTIPOL is the best result of a constant effort for improvement, an insatiable spirit of inovation and the gathering of expertise and know-how over several generations going back to the very origins of the cutlery industry in Portugal. The bigest quality manufacture has been regarded not as an option but as an absolute necessity. Judicious selection of raw materials. Ergonomic study of the shapes. Sober, practical and refined design. Perfection in finish.
In a sector such as cutlery, where classical design and materials have predominated for decades, CUTIPOL sees it as essential to present a very diversified range of cutlery. The CUTIPOL range includes traditional and modern design, in which great attention has been paid to detail. These new modern patterns called for a great deal of technical knowledge and meticulous care.
Although modern machinery is used for much of the initial work, the old traditional craftsmanship still plays a major role.
CARDINAL is a luxury line working under the wing of OPSSS PORTUGAL, and was specially created for the modern man who nurtures a penchant for both style and elegance.
All de pieces are unique, the culmination of the partnership between a trained architect and one of porto’s best craftsman and jeweller.
Each piece of jewellery is individually crafted, in a process entwining a classical base with the skill of the craftsman and the cutting edge architectural ideas and concepts from its designer.
The pieces are made of high-grade materials, ranging from leather and semi-precious stones to exclusive silver elements.
The fusion between geometrical lines and organic elements, inspired by the relationship between man and nature, is present in the pieces’ colours, textures, shapes and movements, and come together to create simple, original pieces with an emphasis on minimalist aesthetics, functionality, and, above all, timelessness.
ART AND TRADITION
We have been working in silver for over a century, with art, tradition and excellence. Born in Porto, this tradition has been maintained within our family business that today moves forward into the future with talented designers and skilled craftsmen. The secret lies in the experienced artisan hands that, gently and firmly entice the silver, drawing out the form and the soul of each exceptional piece. Repeated gestures become intrinsic, a constant and always innovative improvement.
We create characters with stories to tell… unique possessions… works of art that distinguish not only those who own them today but also those who follow in their footsteps.
Silver has a direct relationship with the moon, from where it draws its feminine essence. It is associated with water and divine wisdom and has long been a symbol of purity and light throughout the world. Silver is endowed with the translucence of water, the brightness of a diamond, the clarity of crystal and the reflective qualities of a mirror. Argentums, the Latin word for silver, has its origins in Sanskrit and signifies white and bright.
DECORATIVE AND TABLEWARE
“Art in its global sense and for opposition nature, means any work executed by man, may have the objective to be useful (useful work like mechanical arts) or the beauty expression (beautiful work like fine arts)… If there are useful things that are not beautiful and many beautiful things that are not useful, there are also things that are beautiful and useful at the same time…” ( Ribeiro e Silva, 1980)
In dialogue with the Divine, Alcino handcraft ecclesiastical pieces of great artistic art, since 1960.
ALCINO always worked with well- known artists, like Architects, Painters, Sculptors, developing over the years, several unique and exclusive silver objects.
Challenges are presented by Artists, with the aim of embodying their concept. We capture the essence of each project and provide better solutions for their realization.
We returned to the pieces their original aesthetic qualities through the application of ancient techniques performed by experienced craftsmen. Each piece has its own identity and journey that cannot be forgotten during the restoration process.
